Welcome to all new and returning students at Keeler School!

We hope you have all had a restful summer and are looking forward to a meaningful school year. Here is some information for you as the first day of school approaches.  The school office has reopened on Thursday, August 28, 2025 at 8am.

In this message:

  1. First Day Information
  2. What to bring?
  3. Transportation and Drop-Off/Pick Up
  4. Communication Best Practices
  5. Respectful Communication & Working Relationship

1. The first day back to school for students is Tuesday, September 2nd at 8:00 AM.

Kindergarten families should refer to the staggered entry email for your start and end times on the first day of school.  In addition, all Kindergarten to Grade 6 students will receive a phone call from their teacher and a detailed grade team welcome/informational email before the first day of school.

School hours for 2025-26 are Mondays to Thursdays from 8:00 AM until 2:30 PM. Every Friday will run from 8:00 AM until 12:00 PM, with Redstone Kindergarten students attending according their A or B schedule (previously sent).    To view school calendars, please take a look at the Keeler calendar website page

Please note that outdoor supervision is available at school as of 7:50am each morning! Students can be dropped off at school to the fields and courtyard to take advantage of this morning supervision.  Until September 5, all Keeler teachers will be outside to welcome and supervise students.

2. What to bring?

All general school supplies are provided to students (ie. pencils, glue, paper, scissors, etc...).  If you have any questions about supplies, please feel free to connect with your child's homeroom teacher.

Families should send their children with a pair of indoor shoes to remain at school.  Additionally, each child should bring a lunch and snacks. If a family is experiencing food insecurity, please share this with the classroom teacher, and we will provide support.

Mobile devices must remain 'away for the day', in allignment with the Alberta Education Minsterial Order.  Please take a look at the CBE Away for the Day information sheet.

3. Transportation and Drop-Off/Pick Up

For students registered for the school bus service, you will have received your stop time and location information via email from CBE Transportation. More bussing information can be found on the CBE Transportation page.

Parents/guardians dropping off their students at school are asked to respect the parking signage when dropping off their children.  Please do not park within 5 metres of a pedestrian crosswalk. Always cross at a designated crosswalk with your children.  Plan your route so that you do not perform a U-turn in front of the school.  By practicing these habits at the start of the school year, we can keep all our students, families and neighbours safe. Thank you for your diligence.

4. Communication Best Practices

The school will send a regular Weekly Message home each Friday afternoon via School Messenger. Your child’s teacher will also communicate and post learning information on Google Classroom.

5. Partners in Learning: Respectful, Ongoing & Effective Communication

As we begin a new school year and welcome new families to Keeler School, we want to ensure that parents and guardians know how best to communicate with the school. Families should always feel welcome to reach out to the school. Communication about your child begins in the classroom by reaching out to the classroom teacher. This is the optimal way to connect about your child's schooling.

We are a welcoming, caring, safe, and respectful working and learning environment for all students, parents, and staff. As a result, in all communication between school and families, all individuals should be treated with dignity and respect, whether in person, over the phone, or via email. We have a common goal to ensure your child is successful.

Our welcoming, caring, safe, and respectful working and learning environment is guided by the following documents. We invite you to review them prior to the start of the school year:

While it is most optimal to first reach out to the classroom teacher, Cailean, Principal, and Rachel, Assistant Principal, are available to work collaboratively alongside teachers to support students and their families.

We are looking forward to connecting with you next week and welcoming back our students. Take care and enjoy the last few days of summer.

Sincerely,

Cailean Duggan,                Rachel Scotland,
