Literacy and Numeracy Screening Assessments
Beginning in the 2026/27 school year, schools are now required to conduct literacy and numeracy screenings with all students enrolled in Kindergarten through Grade 5.
Universal screeners do not replace day-to-day teacher observations and classroom assessment. Rather, the results of universal screeners help inform planning for next steps, such as targeted interventions or instructional planning. They are not used to determine grades.
Teachers will administer literacy assessments at different times during the school year:
• Fall: Kindergarten to Grade 5
• Winter: Kindergarten to Grade 3
• Spring: Kindergarten to Grade 5 students who require additional support
School staff will share literacy and numeracy screening results with parents following the screenings.
The Alberta Education General Information Bulletin provides additional information on mandatory literacy and numeracy screening assessments.
School BBQ and Meet the Teacher
We hope you are excited for School BBQ for Keeler School families on September 24th from 4:30pm to 7:00pm. Rachel and Cailean will be serving hot dogs and juice, generously provided by our School Council. No RSVP is required.
Families are also invited to visit their children's classroom on Thursday evening from 5:00pm-7pm. Teachers will be available in their classrooms to greet families at this time.
Please note that supervision is not provided by school staff during Meet the Teacher night. All children must be supervised by an attending adult/family member for the duration of the evening.
Caregiver Series
The CBE is offering a series of sessions designed to provide families with knowledge, tools, and strategies to help navigate the challenges and opportunities of raising children and teens today.
Additional session details are available on the CBE website: Child and Youth Well-Being Family and Caregiver Series.
Demographics Form
A reminder to families to complete your child's demographic verification for the 2026-27 school year as soon as possible. These forms can be found through your MyCBE account and are required to be updated yearly.

Terry Fox Day | A Message from Ms. Areny
Hello Keeler Cougars and Families
On Thursday, September 17th, Keeler School students will be participating in the Terry Fox Run. Students will be directed to the tarmac behind the school for the annual 30-minute run, which is scheduled to begin at approximately 1:00 pm.
On this day, please ensure that your child is appropriately dressed for the weather (including running shoes). If the weather is poor, students will walk inside the school during their PE class time.
We are asking that each child, if able, donate $1 to the Terry Fox Foundation between September 14 - 17th. Donations will be collected in class – our fundraising goal is one dollar for each student at Keeler!
Thank you for your support,
Sylvia Areny
