School BBQ and Meet the Teacher | Important Information

We hope you’re looking forward to our School BBQ for Keeler School families on Thursday, September 24, from 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Rachel and Cailean will be serving hot dogs and juice, generously provided by our School Council. New this year: families will first receive a ticket to exchange for hotdogs at the barbeque. An adult supervisor must be in attendance to receive a ticket for food.

Families are also invited to visit their child’s classroom between 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. At this time, teachers will be in their classrooms and look forward to welcoming families and connecting with you.

School staff will not be providing supervision during Meet the Teacher evening. All children must remain under the supervision of an attending adult or family member for the duration of the evening.

We look forward to seeing you and your families!

After School Program | Koko’sinooniks

Koko’sinooniks (Our Children) is a free community-based program that focuses on building positive relationships and cultural awareness in participants.

Many activities will have an Indigenous focus in connection to traditional ways of knowing. There will also be various fun games, crafts, and activities to build social and emotional skills as part of the kids program.

This program will run out of Keeler School from October 5th onward for the current school year. Please reach out to the office for registration information.

Orange Shirt Day

Orange Shirt Day began in 2013 when residential school survivor Phyllis Webstad shared how her orange shirt was taken away on her first day of residential school. Learning Phyllis’ story is an opportunity for students and staff to share ways we can work together towards truth and reconciliation and supports our collective commitment to ensuring each student is welcome, safe, respected and cared for within our learning community.

In preparation for the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, Keeler students will be discussing the importance of Orange Shirt Day in their classrooms. We invite all students to wear orange on September 29th in solidarity with those who attended residential schools and their families.

Invite | School Council Meeting

Our first school council meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, September 29th at 5:30pm. We would love for you to join us.

If you are interested in attending, please email Ceilia Burns at burns_696@hotmail.com. Collaborating with our school council is an important part of supporting Keeler students and the entire school community – we would love to see you there!

Personal Items at School

At Keeler, we provide required learning resources for all students. This includes required school supplies, sensory items (if needed), sports equipment during PE and outside time, and school-based technology as needed.

Please remind students to leave personal items, valuables, and electronics at home during the school day, as school staff cannot monitor or secure personal items on a student's behalf.

Have a great weekend,

Cailean & Rachel
